For the Predacon of the same name from Rise of the Beasts, see Scorponok.
Scorponok was a Decepticon who served as Blackout's minion. Somehow, he outlived his master. He was killed by Jetfire in Egypt.
History[]
IDW Comics[]
Before the war, as seen in Defiance, Scorponok and Blackout were members of the Cybertronian Defense Force under the authority of High Protector Megatron. When unknown hostiles attacked Cybertron, Scorponok and Barricade were placed on recon.
During the war, as seen in flashback in Planetfall, Scorponok and Blackout, who ordinarily never left Megatron's side, were dispatched to join Starscream's forces elsewhere on Cybertron while Megatron closed in on the AllSpark. After the group realised that both the AllSpark and Megatron had left Cybertron, Blackout ended an argument with Starscream over what to do next by deploying Scorponok.
As seen in flashback in The Reign of Starscream, soon after the Decepticons launched the Nemesis, to pursue Optimus Prime's starship, they were unwittingly led into a trap and crippled by mines. Scorponok rescued Starscream's scout Dreadwing, who was also damaged.
Ghosts of Yesterday[]
Aboard the Nemesis, Scorponok was part of the crew searching for Megatron and the AllSpark. After Starscream left the ship temporarily with strict orders that everyone was to stay put, Blackout decided to attack the Autobots ship, the Ark, along with Scorponok. The small Decepticon managed to grab onto Optimus during the fight, but could not meaningfully oppose him. Optimus was able to inflict some damage in return, and left Scorponok struggling to return to the Nemesis.
When the Decepticons later made another attack on the Autobots, Scorponok snuck aboard the Ark. It wasn't until Optimus spotted him moving through the ship that the Autobots were alerted to his actions. Ratchet was sent to forcibly eject Scorponok, who was ill-equipped to move through space. While Ratchet pressed to the attack, the helpless Decepticon was only saved by an injured Blackout.
Planetfall[]
Many years later, the Nemesis traced the AllSpark to Earth, where Scorponok aided Blackout in attacking a United States military base in Afghanistan.
Transformers[]
Blackout went to a U.S military base in Qatar and attacked, deploying Scorponok who is in Beast Mode in the midst of the battle. Scorponok dived underground, later tracking the surviving soldiers of the attack, bursting out the ground again and spearing one on his tail. The others ran, and Scorponok followed them to a small town, where his prey mounted an offense, shooting off his tail in the process. Injured, Scorponok dived back underground and never to be seen again. His tail was taken for examination.
Scorponok vanished for a few years, possibly unaware that his master Blackout had died in the battle of Mission City.
Titan Comics[]
Titan Comics tie in strips are generally not in continuity with IDW's prequel comics. Despite dying in the first story, both Revenge of the Fallen and Scorponok's other Titan story ignore this death.
In Scorpion Sting, Scorponok was hunted by Ironhide and a team of US Special Forces, to tie up loose ends. Hunting his hunters, Scorponok attacked Ironhide and took control of his motor functions, having him rampage through the humans. Luckily, one of them was able to sever the connection with a shot, and Ironhide smashed the Decepticon to pieces.
In Reversal of Fortune, Scorponok was part of a scheme to frame Skids and Mudflap: while Sideways got himself captured, Scorponok headed for Diego Garcia and made an attack to free the comrade. He shouldn't have been able to do this without being detected and made sure to attack right when the twins were distracting Optimus Prime. Scorponok personally shot at Prime before smashing apart Sideways' cuffs.
Revenge of the Fallen[]
However, during the Battle of Egypt, Scorponok lurked under the sand and burst out, catching the Turncoat Decepticon-Autobot Jetfire off guard and driving his spinning claws into the seeker's chest, mortally wounding him. As Jetfire fell injured, he pulled Scorponok out of his chest and crushed the Decepticons head, putting an end to Scorponok.

Trivia[]
- Airazor, Scorponok, Sideways and Steeljaw are the only Transformers who died in their alt-modes.
- Considering that Scorponok transform into the part of Blackout's alt mode, it is unclear how Blackout was still able to fly without Scorponok being with him. This is further demonstrated in the 2007 video game. Then again, Cybertronian could alter and upgrade their vehicle mode in some way such as how Starscream was able to fly to Space in his F-22 jet mode, however, it can be assumed that Scorponok may have went back to Blackout, and after his master's death and being thrown away in the Laurentian Abyss, secretly taking himself off from Blackout's corpse, and got out of the water, since Transformers can survive in water.
